Kirkland Conserves welcomes you to the Sustainability Showcase at City Hall for All!

Do you find yourself wondering what the City of Kirkland does for sustainability? Do you want to learn more ways that you can help in your everyday life? Do you have a broken toaster?

If you answered yes to any of these, come on down to the Sustainability Showcase at City Hall for All this Saturday, September 14th from 11-4.

City Hall for All is the City of Kirkland’s annual event where we throw open the doors, spill out into the parking lot, and celebrate the work that City Staff and community members are doing to make Kirkland a welcoming place for all. The goal of the event is to help residents of Kirkland connect to their City, learn something new, share their thoughts with their City staff, and of course have FUN.

Last year’s City Hall for All was hopping – there’s lots to see and do for everyone!

This year your Kirkland Conserves team (and others!) would like to extend a welcome for you to join us for the event – especially the Sustainability Showcase, where we hope to spread the message that sustainability is also for all!

What kinds of things can you find, explore, and do at the Sustainability Showcase?

  • Kid and adult activities and challenges throughout the day
Recycle relay, anyone? How about an electric leaf blower race? Maybe munching at the Bird Beak Buffet is more your speed? What are we talking about? You’ll have to come down and see for yourself! It’s going to get wacky!
  • Bring small appliances and clothing items in need of repairs to our Fixer Fair
Seattle Reconomy is bringing their fearless team of fixers to evaluate your items in need of a little TLC, so you can keep them out of the waste stream. Located inside City Hall on the second floor.
  • Take an e-bike for a spin
Want to cycle more, but daunted by Kirkland’s hills? See if an extra boost from an e-bike might just get you over the hump and into cycling!
  • Put the REDUCE and REUSE into story time at the Children’s Book Swap!
Discover new-to-you stories without having to purchase new-to-the-planet books. Share stories you’ve loved with some new kids. Keep the cycle going!
  • Practice being a member of the stormwater crew
Collect a “sample” of polluted water from our “storm drain” (don’t worry, it’s just practice! Nobody will need to come into contact with actually polluted water, and no storm drains were harmed in the making of this activity). Learn ways to prevent pollution in Kirkland’s Creeks and Lake Washington.

  • Check out the EVs!
There will be multiple models of electric vehicles from different makers all in one place at the mini EV expo, and people on hand to answer your questions about them.
  • Pledge to reuse and take home reusable schwag
Would a high-quality reusable mug, tea towel, or other surprises walk the walk? Come see what goodies we have for you!

  • Waste question? We’ve got answers.
Got a burning question about what exactly IS and is NOT recyclable? Wondering just how dry those recyclables have to be? Composting query? Chat with Waste Management, or connect with the Tidy Up Team! Feel like you’re already an expert, and want to share your knowledge with the world? Volunteer to be part of the Tidy Up Team here!

While you’re here be sure not to miss the Touch-A-Truck event, take in some cultural performances from members of the community, have lemonade with your City Council, and visit the Eastside-Made pop-up market.

Worried about parking? Ditch the worry, and your bike, with the Liveable Kirkland Bike Valets. These awesome volunteers want to make sure people feel safe leaving their cycle so that more people can choose 2 wheels to get around. The bike valets will watch your bike while you explore, no charge!

It’s going to be a great day. See you there!
